From an early age, Bas Jan Proper (@basjanproper) was in full contact with classic cars and motorsport. His father, Lex Proper, was a professional driver for Porsche in the 1990s. Lex was a Porsche factory driver during the Porsche Carrera Cup, which ran as the support race for Formula One.

Usually the path for these racing sons is clear, but Bas had a different plan; choosing to follow his own passion in the hospitality industry. But even then, he ended up in the driver’s seat of his father’s ’69 Tangerine Orange Porsche 911T. His affinity for the classic car industry and an appreciation for classics suddenly grew strongly. By the time Bas completed his education he had a wild idea, of starting his own business with a focus on combining it all – exclusive cars, hospitality and design.

The idea didn’t come together until Bas happened to meet Leon Van Ommen, at the time helping connect @singervehicledesign to local European markets. They were both looking for more: Leon, already working in the classic automotive industry and Bas Jan, with his background in hospitality industry, saw an opportunity to create a unique place. In January 2019 they founded a new company together: @differsgroup.
